My mother once pointed out to me that we "all attract" crap, but what does one do when the garbage won't go away? That's the main question asked in this scene from Martin Scorsese's The King of Comedy featuring Jerry Lewis as talk show host Jerry Langford, Robert De Niro as his stalker Rupert Pupkin and Diahne Abbott as Pupkin's almost girlfriend. The entire film has remarkably awkward and cringeworthy moments spread throughout it, but this scene blows them all out of the water. This is truly a film ahead of its time.
To paraphrase Morgan Freeman's cop from Se7en, "I believe the world is worth fighting for...."

I'd neither seen nor heard of this movie, you nailed it with the description of "remarkably awkward and cringeworthy."
Upon reading the plot summary, it jumped out at me that Robert De Niro seems to like stalker characters - from Cape Fear, to The Fan, to this, seems he's done more of these characters than other actors. I wonder what about them fascinates and keeps drawing him to them?
