F. Murray Abraham is, of course, a majestic Salieri. Tom Hulce, while I find him one note and hardly a reasonable representation of Mozart, has his fans here too. But for me, the best performance in Amadeus is from Jeffrey Jones as Emperor Joseph. I don't think I have seen the film in the years since certain allegations about Jones' personal life came to light and am not sure to what degree it would cloud my opinion, but I watched this movie several times when I was younger and was always enchanted by his sharp, funny portrayal, skilfully staying just the right side of caricature. A terrific performance.
