Diskuse o Avengers: Endgame

I'm still trying to figure all this out because Bruce's explanation of how your present becomes your past thing KINDA makes sense, but not completely.Did their explanation of why you can't change the past make sense?

Yes.

In fact, it makes more sense than the "Back to the Future" style of time travel, which is inherently paradoxical. If you could change your own past to improve your lot in the present/future then you wouldn't have the impetus to go back in the first place.

The "Marvel Method": You can go back and change whatever you like but it will just create a new timeline, makes much more sense.

But didn't they do that in Back To The Future: Part 2, where there were alternate 1985 realities? One was where Biff had the casino, and Hill Valley was under his rule. The mood was dark and depressing, and George McFly was dead. The other reality was the 1985 that Marty came from. The final timeline was the one where his dad was a famous author, his mom was thin, and Biff was washing their car.

IIRC it's all the same timeline, with alterations made by various time-travel shenanigans. The "Marvel" way could achieve similar results, but all 3 "1985s" would still exist as different "branches of the tree"; the "BTTF" way would be like cutting the branch and having a different branch, shaped by the actions of the characters, growing in its place.

I see.

Thanks for all your replies. This whole thing has gotten me thinking about Legends of Tomorrow.Because if you can't change time then aren't they just creating alternate timelines? And when they travel back to the present wouldn't they be traveling through time in the alternate timeline they created by interfering in the past?

Legends is DC. I'm not a huge DC fan so can't be sure, but I'm guessing they have their own "Time Travel Rules".

According to the DVD commentary, Brice's explanation of how time travel works was a direct quote from s Quantum physicist they consulted for advice on what rules to use for their ti e travel. So it is not something the writers made up.

Well, there are still problems with the explanation.Quantum Mechanics has NOTHING to do with time travel,in fact time is consistent in Quantum Mechanics. Read this article:https://www.theringer.com/movies/2019/5/3/18527776/marvel-avengers-endgame-time-travel-david-deutsch-proposition-scott-aaronson

There is no branch of science they has anything to with tine travel and there is no research on the idea of tine travel and probably never will be. So whether they asked a quantum physicist or a sheep herder it makes little difference, the point is that there is one school of thought that this is how time travel would work. It isn't something the screenwriters made up

If there are no parallel universes(multiverses), then you can't change your past

Okay, but Bruce never brought up Retro Causality.Experiments have proven Retro Causality,so events that take place in the future CAN change the past.
