This film was such a disappointment from Hal Ashby, one of the most exciting filmmakers of the 1970s. Some excellent acting, but all in the service of a trifling plot, a half-hearted satire every bit as shallow as its Beverly Hills targets. Jack Warden is particularly good and provides several of the few strong moments, and Warren Beatty is well cast as himself in hairdresser form. But it's all awfully forgettable.

I agree that Fisher's scene was one of the better ones. I didn't think it amounted to much, unfortunately.
Hawn was good in a rather throwaway part. Julie Christie, whom I generally love, had more to do but seemed rather stiff and unnatural.
Agreed on Warren's character - I do give the film credit where it's due, and it's hard to imagine a mainstream Hollywood hit getting away with it today! But this was a film I had looked forward to seeing for a long time, and ultimately it felt like much ado about nothing...

I haven’t seen Lilith but I have heard good things.
My personal favourite Beatty performance is in McCabe and Mrs. Miller. A beautiful performance. He was also very good in Reds.
