Discuss Despicable Me 3

After watching "Despicable Me 3" and "Cars 3" as a double feature at a drive-in; I drove away at the end of it all liking "Despicable Me 3" much better (as I expected even before the movies started.) Though I will say "Cars 3" exceeded my expectations by just a little bit. To my surprise when I later checked out the ratings on IMDB; "Cars 3" had the higher rating. I don't know why...maybe it's just me. "Despicable Me 3" was much faster paced, funnier, lots of references to pop culture, and the connection between the characters I felt was better. I can't imagine where the Cars sequels can go, but I can easily see the Despicable Me franchise has barely touched the surface, and has even sprung off it's own movie "Minions" (2015) which was pretty good. Cars had one, but in my eyes was a bit of a flop with "Planes" (2013.)

I haven't seen Cars 3 but I'd definitely believe that DM3 was better. Cars was just okay in my opinion so I never bothered watching the sequels.

I like Despicable Me 3 and Minions as well. Didn't see Cars 3 yet. The Planes movies were just okay.

I would say yes but it's probably a low bar. I've never liked the Cars movies. I liked the Despicable Me ones before this but just found this one not as funny.

I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see. Thanks in advance. A review of the movie here-https://youtu.be/hN4ghpJGrqk

I really do enjoy your reviews, and your points of view are well taken. As far as the fragmented parts of the movie; I never thought of it like that, but your right...the movie does go into many directions. In saying that; I was able to keep up with all the fragmented parts, though I can see where that can let some people down.

As a side note; I've noticed many animated movies tend to feature older technology. A slide show with a real slide projector (not digital,) audio cassettes, records, NTSC television (with the old screen ratio,) just to name a few...there was one that even took place in the 1970s (I could tell by the cars and some of the styles.) I don't even know why I'm pointing this out. There's a trailer out right now for a scary movie which shows kids in a dark room looking at a slide show when the slide projector starts to speed up on it's own and ends up showing a scary mini movie. From the trailer "It" at this moment https://youtu.be/xE0kRwDXn7o?t=179 Is it possible "It" takes place in the 70s?

my son thought cars 3 was boring.and lots of his friends did to.Dm 3 was better .

I thought the first Despicable Me was hilarious (I've seen it multiple times). The second one was not as good but still okay.

Despicable Me 3, on the other hand? I thought it was awful. I especially couldn't stand Dru's voice-- like fingernails across a chalkboard for me.

I did think the whole "wardrobe malfunction" bit with the minion's bra falling off was funny, as did the rest of the adults in the theater.

And I did find it very surprising that the writers had that scene with Dru's mother's (Swedish?) male assistant emerging from the water right beneath her as she got out of the pool.

I think many of the adults in the theater-- myself included --were a bit shocked, and thinking, "Ummm . . . just what was going on there?"

I'm not necessarily criticizing the scene; it was just . . . unexpected.

I do think I'm done with the Despicable Me franchise, though, just because I thought DM3 was such a drop in quality.

It's fine if others liked it, though.

I did like the Minions spinoff movie. Haven't seen any of the Cars or Planes movies, so can't comment on them.
