Let's face it, no-one wanted a Blade Runner sequel. It's the ultimate 'not needed' sequel. Was there a great clamour for a sequel? Did people post on movie message boards demanding a sequel? Nope. No-one was desperate for a return to the Blade Runner universe.

If a sequel had to be made, I dunno, perhaps around 1992? Ten years on - something like that. But to leave it 35 years? Harrison Ford is too old for this sequel. His voice sounded so decrepit I expected him to cough out cobwebs.

It's just sad how people can't let go. They have to revisit the past but that's why it's called the past. It's meant to stay there. Not be revisited. It's for the best BR 2049 flopped. It brings closure.

Excellent point about leaving the past in the past, I agree totally! I wish everyone today felt that way, I'm so tired of everyone wanting to beat a dead horse over and over, like with Star Wars and Terminator and the list goes on and on.

i wanted it.

Was I looking for a sequel? Not really, but I was damn excited when I heard there was one and you know what? I think they did a damn fine job with it. I think I like it better than the original.

I didn't wish for - but was glad that it was made. One of the best cinematic experiences of the year so far. Made with love for detail. Totally enjoyed it.

I get what you are trying to say but revisiting the past is not always a bad thing. The nice thing is there is not a saturation of Blade Runner. There are only two films now. Blade Runner 2049 actually was a solid amazing sequel. Mainly because they hired the right people to do it. When a franchise has been saturated and killed then it starts to become a joke. If we never revisited films we would not have films like Mad Max Fury Road and this film.

Agreed... the only consolation is that the "world building" was fairly limited... But I don't think it will stop here... it will continue...

You or anyone else are not forced to watch it. Just get on with other things. You'll just remember the original.

Why does invidia need ALL CAPS ON?

Why does invidia need ALL CAPS ON?

For EMPHASIS?

It does come across as SHOUTY, but I think I've been able to tune it out mostly. Italics and bold formatting work better for emphasis in my opinion.

@Invidia said:

Using the BOLD OPTION requires one to insert those * signs, and HALF the time you also need to EDIT and go back in again because something screwed up, like the * is over by the other letter which means it didn't work.

So using the CAPS for EMPHASIS is much less of a pain in the butt than typing in those 2 marks (actually 4 MARKS because you also have to ADD them to each side of whatever it is you want to be in BOLD) .

And if you want to BOLD several WORDS or sentences or parts of sentences, then you're also looking at having to TYPE still many, many more of those * MARKS in front of and then behind them.

Reno, for instance, used 8 of them for just the 2 WORDS that she has in BOLD in her message.

rolling_eyes

But EYE ISSUES are also the reason for using CAPS, because reading The SMALL PRINT also hurts one's eyes and there's also only so much one can MAGNIFY the screen before the sides of it disappear.

And using CAPS also enables one to SKIM through the message, which also comes in handy especially when one also tends to post long lengthy messages here.

So CAPS also work like an OUTLINE would, where one can use them to SKIM around through what's been said.

So what about this guy that K KILLS who is also suppose to be an OLDER MODEL like Roy who had a LIMITED LIFESPAN.

How did he manage to live there for 28 YEARS on that FARM where he also says he saw the MIRACLE of Rachel giving birth???

What screws up is that it sometimes inserts an extra space in there for god only knows why. But the best way to bold or italicize a word on here is to simply type out the word, then double click on the freshly typed out word to highlight it, once it is highlighted click on the B or the I on the top of the message box. But still, I have been chatting with Invidia since the IMDB days when she went under another handle (I could tell ya but then I'd have to kill ya wink ) which I will withhold for privacy purposes and I at5 first was annoyed by what may be perceived as SHOUTING. But after a while it grew on me and I just took it as her unique writing style.

@Invidia said:

The other ID was already EXPOSED here by others.

Hard to HIDE who one is when one also uses a UNIQUE posting style.

wink

So what about this OLDER MODEL REPLICANT that K KILLS???

HOW did he live for 28 YEARS on that FARM when he's also suppose to have a LIMITED LIFESPAN like ROY had???

And WHY didn't K or his BOSS ever address this ISSUE or WONDER how it was that he'd managed to live so long past his 4 YEAR EXPIRATION DATE???

That replicant was a Nexus 8 who had natural life spans. The biggest clue about him is that you noticed he looked exactly the same as his ID picture taken 30 years previously which tells us that replicants do not AGE. Aside from the girl in the bubble of course.

But isn't K suppose to be a NEWER MODEL with the EXPANDED LIFESPAN who HUNTS down OLDER MODELS that DO NOT have the EXPANDED LIFESPANS.

When we first meet K (Ryan Gosling), an advanced-model replicant whose work is retiring — which of course means killing — earlier-model replicants who haven’t been perfectly programmed to obey. One of his assignments, to kill a replicant named Sapper Morton (Dave Bautista, who amazingly enough has become an actor I affirmatively look forward to seeing in everything) who has been living a quiet, underground life as a protein farmer, leads K to a startling piece of information. Though they’re widely believed to be sterile, a replicant, now dead, gave birth to a living child.

So WHY is he HUNTING DOWN a NEWER MODEL and calling it an OLDER ONE if it's also the SAME MODEL as K???

If you read the intro it says something to the effect that before Tyrell went under they gave the Nexus 8 human life spans and this contributed to humans REALLY hating artificial humans (replicants) and there was some sort of war. The blackout wiped out the records of where they all were because humans were using the records to locate Nexus 8 replicants to WIPE THEM OUT. See? You writing style is catchy. grin

The newer models were built only after the promise that Wallace said that they would never turn on humans.

Yes one realizes this due to the way one also CAUGHT the style from someone else who was USING IT.

wink

grin

Ok.

So we've got the NEXUS 6 MODELS (like ROY) with 4 YR LIMITED LIFESPANS.

But then there's also RACHEL who supposedly had none???

And then another NEXUS MODEL (NUMBER 7???) is created that also has EXPANDED LIFESPANS?

And then still another NEXUS MODEL (NUMBER 8) is created that WALLACE says will OBEY???

The CATCH here is WALLACE also didn't say there could be a CONFLICT if 2 different HUMANS gave them a different set of CONFLICTING ORDERS about how they wanted them to OBEY THEM.

So that's also why we end up with LUV being in CONFLICT with K (because their BOSSES also gave them ORDERS that were in CONFLICT).

So then the guy that K kills at the farm would be a NEXUS 7???

And K would be a NEXUS 8???

But then K also didn't OBEY his boss in the end when he let's DECKARD LIVE and FAKES his report back to LAPD by saying that DECKARD'S DEAD???

I'm pretty sure the Nexus 8 are Tyrell's last models with unlimited lifespans. They are not the Wallace "obey" models which is why they have contracts on their lives. What seems to have happened is after Tyrell gave them human life spans, humans got their panties in a twist about it, started massacring them via the registration list, so an underground movement was created by replicants (I learned this by the anime you turned me on to BTW) to fight back and they came up with the blackout. This way there was no way to tell where the Nexus 8 replicants were at. So of course during all the hub-bub replicants become banned and Tyrell corporations goes out of business. Along comes Wallace who pleads his case of the usefulness of the replicants (slavery) and presents a new model (NOT in the Nexus series) that will never turn on humans and will obey every command as demonstrated in that 5 minute clip which I think you also turn me on to Invidia where he tells that replicant to cuts his own face.
