This one is very entertaining as it promises to be. And then a bit more.
Maybe I'm missing something, but all the critics are gushing about the way the "innovative way" car chases are edited to match the music. Are none of the old enough to remember "Miami Vice" back in the 80s?
The trailers haven't sold me, so I'll wait until it's on one of the movie channels.
I don't get it, the hype really is over the top. This movie has some of the worst dialogue you can ever hear. Cringe worthy. Plot holes galore, the action was good, the driving well done. But everything else felt forced and unnatural. Can anyone honestly tell me the cast of bad guys were at all likeable, even the main character was boring, if this is what's getting the top marks for film its worrying to say the least. My two cents is that everyone is so happy to see something other then a Marvel or DC movie they let reality by the way side.
Baby Driver is perfect as a movie by Edgar Wright, hence perfect for Edgar Wright fans. I loved how every scene is perfectly in sync with the music, I'm totally in favor of music centered movies. This is how I like my action movies: funny, exciting, great music, great car chases, big guns, Kevin Spacey coming out of an elevator with a shotgun, dumbass villains plus smart ass villains. Plus, some adorable characters. I will rewatch Baby Driver for sure, but Shaun of the Dead is still forever my Edgar Wright favorite.
That's a joke. It's an overall clichéd action-heist- crime flick that's fairly well done, entertaining, and fun, but it's so unrealistic and jammed with many instances of deus ex machina. Movies like this make RT and critics lose all credibility. This seems to have gotten better critic reviews than...HEAT Lol. The more you think about that, the more you realize how bad of a movie it was, but I'll keep it in comparison with recent years' movies and give it a 6.5. It's mindless popcorn entertainment and fun, but incredibly unrealistic.
This movie was not super great. Way too violent imo. And girls like Debora basically don't exist. Spoilers below...
Why did Baby only get 25 years? Didn't he participate in the murder of a dozen or so police? And then he ran when he was chased causing all kinds of havoc. I'm surprised he didn't get life. Character references could possibly spare you getting the chair but not much more than that. Out in 5 years with Parole? Yeah right!
I didn't love this movie. I was pretty disappointed just based on the hype it had, which is unavoidable coming from Write. Even the teaser trailer made it seem like 'Drive' and 'Hudson Hawk' put together. A Drive comedy with a score that is relevant to the plot.
And to that point, I didn't understand why Write would make a movie so similar to Drive so soon after. It's not like he could best it, its a strange choice. That high rating on RT (93% as of now) makes me not trust that site's ratings. Ratings that used to differ greatly from IMDB, but are more and more similar lately.
It's not a BAD movie, its just not on par with what we've come to expect from Edgar Write, and is just bad timing for a movie like this. All the acting was great though, especially Jon Hamm and Jamie Foxx. I HATED Foxx's character, which to me is always a sign that they're good actor (if you don't have strong feelings about other things they've done).
After putting my opinion down in words, its making me consider if I'm being fair judging it on its individual merits as a stand alone movie, which of course it is, it's not part of writes other "collections" of films. I saw it in the theatre opening week, and told myself and other I would rewatching it to see if my feelings have changed which of course I haven't done yet.
aaaanywho. I think people want to like it. So they do. Whether it's truly good or not, that's subjective, to a certain degree.

OK, I have now seen this, and the trailers didn't do it justice. It's brilliant. Looking forward to seeing it again.

Yeah, I don't see what the fuss is all about.
It felt like a two-hour Grand Theft Auto V story line.

It looks decent, but Kevin Spacey is a pedophile and I refuse to see his movies.

Look what came up in the news today.

Also, Spacey is lying and this was not an isolated incident. He is a pedophile and preys on young boys.

i don't out much stock in aggregated ratings... i find controversial, artistic or idiosyncratic movies don't rate well...
This movie was fun and light... just don't expect a lot more than that...
