But he played it well enough. I am not sure whether the Demi Moore sub plot was intended to create a sequel. I continue to wonder why women do things to their mouths that make them look disfigured. It is certainly not attractive. I think if women were born with mouths like they acquire they would have plastic surgery to correct it.

spoilers I think Costner was the best thing in this. So much of this was just off the wall and ludicrous.

  • What was his motivation to give the cop the hangman and to target her ex-husband. It felt like multiple scenes were missing.
  • absurd coincidence of the cop chasing two serial killers, and one of the killers just happens to bump into the other killer inadvertantly while following some random person.
  • psychopathic genes passing through the family.
  • Moore's character making the bizarre assumption that the victims curtains might have been closed by the killer (before she learns that they did keep them open at night).
  • the multiple personality angle thing was kind of redundant.

Brainless stuff only saved from complete catastrophe by the good killer / bad killer relationship between Costner and his apprentice. Pick one or two of the crazy elements and run with them. Don't throw all 7 or 8 into the melting pot and hope you come up trumps.

5/10

This was nowhere near as weird as KC playing a outlaw in Crusades-era England. Who also spoke with an impeccable West Coast US accent

LOL !!

I like to see actors act - that is, take a role that is not who they are, or who we think they are, try something new, take a risk, surprise us.

Bruce Willis in The Jackal. Or Death Becomes Her. Michael Keaton in Pacific Heights. Denzel Washington in Training Day. Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder. Or Born on the Fourth of July. Sylvester Stallone in Cop Land.

I haven't seen Mr. Brooks yet - will circle back after I've seen it and have something worth contributing.

5/10

I've finally seen it. I give it a 6/10. Yes, there are some plot devices that seemed contrived, but not beyond the average for most movies of this type far as I might imagine. There were also some twists that made it more interesting and more than compensated for the contrivances.
