... They can't make a DECENT film in this franchise anymore.
The first one - a giant mainstream blockbuster. EVERYONE loved it.
JW - the 4th one, that is. a mainstream blockbuster. EVERYONE hated it.
So obviously this is not about some indie v mainstream thing. It can be both slightly silly and great. How can so many ppl and so much money create something so terrible as this?

It's a mystery....
If a band can produce 3 or 4 hit albums in a row, even surpassing each previous record, why can't the studios do the same with a movie franchise?
I suspect because it's not in the "artists'" hands anymore.
Zep did it over and over as did Floyd and others. but THEY created it and/or produced it (with help of course) but it was still their baby.
Chricton's great novel and Spielberg's deft hand (with help of course) - it was their baby. It no longer is, unfortunately.....

But my point is this was a giant blockbuster already from the start. When bands sell out it means they started out doing what they wanted to do. And then they go for the big crowd and sell out. JP already had the crowds. And didn't gain anything by doing these shitty films.

Would agree with that but then it's kind of amazing to consider sequels to very much the defining blockbuster of it's time - about kids being chased by resurrected CGI dinosaurs no less! - could be considered "sell outs" of that original! Funnily enough, you could almost describe Crichton's book as a sell out of his own previous efforts. But then, they were hardly fine literature in the first place either 😀
But yeah, it's interesting to consider how much nostalgia clouds judgement - probably true to some extent of all of us up in arms over how poor the latest Star Wars films have been...

I think it has more to do with expectations. When people went to see the first one, no one really knew what to expect...it was all new. This can be said about any film franchise. Once people get used to the idea; either the same type of jokes are not as funny nor when old jokes from the earlier movies are not as funny when repeated. Of course it's expected of what people liked about the first one will have more of the same with what ever popular content being even more grand since it has to be because we had seen what ever is being repeated again. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

Times have changed.
There was a time when only a few films got big budget sequels and the likes of Jurassic Park 4 would just be a straight to video at worst or at best a disgrace like Jaws 4. Heck even in the 80s Speilberg said no to Jaws 2 but by the 90s was ready to do a Jurassic Park sequel.

You can't compare bands to studios. Jurassic World is kind of like Springsteen 20 years after "Born to Run" announcing he's doing a follow up album, but it will be a different band, different singer and he will just be on board on a supervisory level.

They can't make good sequels because there is only one story to tell about dinosaurs running loose on an island in modern days, and it was already told in the first movie.
There is no franchise here, despite Universal's desire to turn it into one.

Almost $5 Billion Worldwide for all 5 films combined says otherwise..I'd call that a successful film franchise! Its a no brainer to keep it going, just hope they can come up with something fresh for the next one! What can I say, I'm partial to Dinosaur movies!

How can there possibly be anything fresh with " oh look dinosaurs"?

Have you seen the Battle At Big Rock short, maybe teaser for JW3? If not, check it HERE
I think the next one can be unique, with dinos now integrating into our world, a TRUE Jurassic WORLD! Plus bringing back Jeff Golblum, Sam Neill & Laura Dern...say what you will, but I'm excited for the next one!

Yeah, I liked this film - especially the second half with the scooby doo "haunted" mansion stuff / hiding under the sheets from the Dinos. Thought that was a decent stab at distinguishing it from Jurassic Park 2's escaped brought back to the mainland dino.
And 3 should hopefully be good given the premise - did you watch the short clips during the credits of Battle Of Big Rock? They were probably as much fun in setting up what should be coming as the actual short itself.

That's what I was thinking. The end of the last one had them escaping where humans live. So it can be like a Godzilla, but with dinosaurs.

Don't you mean when the dinosaurs are saying "Oh look! Humans!!!"
