Chris Cornell, grunge rock pioneer, died on Wednesday, May 17, 2017. In 2006 he sang the Casino Royale theme song "You Know My Name", which he wrote with David Arnold. I think this was a great Bond song and I think Mr. Cornell and Mr. Arnold should have received an Oscar nomination for Best Song. My deepest condolences to his family.

A heartfelt RIP goes to the voice of Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog and Audioslave.

I was watching the music video for You Know My Name yesterday and for some reason it made me cry. Back in 2006 I had to buy Mr. Cornell's Cary On album to get You Know My Name (for some reason the Daniel Craig Bond Soundtracks don't have the theme songs on them). I hadn't really heard that much of Mr. Cornell's work, but Carry On was so good I was totally blown away. It's so sad that his life ended the way it did.

@mechajutaro No. In fact, I knew of those grunge bands by name, but I didn't know about the individual band members.
So when they announced that Mr. Cornell was chosen to sing the theme song, I was like "Who the hell is he?" But to make a long story short (too late, Maria!), when I heard You Know My Name during the opening credits I fell in love with his voice. I've mentioned before that I had to buy Carry On to get the song, I listened to the whole album, and it was great! I really liked his cover of Billie Jean (no, I'm not making that up).
I have to get back to watching Kong Skull Island and Kong killing all those red sh--, err I mean US soldiers getting killed in different ways. Bye for now.

@mechajutaro I have insomnia, so when I can't sleep, I watch movies. I rented Kong Skull Island and The Lego Batman Movie (which is really funny) from Redbox yesterday. I really like Redbox because it only charges $1.50 per day.
I'm very impressed with KSI. So impressed that I'm watching it again. The special effects were impressive, especially that scence when Kong attacks the helicopters. I kept flinching every time a helicopter got blown up or smashed to the ground, and Kong grabbing a helicopter and using it as a baseball bat. And it's always a treat to watch Samuel L. Jackson, he even gets to say his big line from Jurassic Park.

@mechajutaro Very true! Now this might sound strange, but as I was watching KSI, I noticed that there some plot points that where similar to Joseph Conrad's novel Heart of Darkness, which, as you know, was the inspiration for Apocalypse Now.
First of all, Huddleston's character is named Conrad, the expedition was going to an unexplored place, there was a military escort, when they get to the village, they find Marlowe, who like Dennis Hopper in Apocalypse Now, was sort of the PR man for Kong, among other things.
-------Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night------

First Chris, now Chester from Linkin Park. Music world will be poor without them. By the way, I'm a huge fan of Cornell's song for "Casino Royale"

@IrinaOma I love that song too. It really should have gotten an Oscar. I've seen a lot of cover versions on YouTube, including from a Finnish band named Poets Of The Fall.
