I can't help but think this is one of those films where sex and experience would vastly alter how you see it. What do you think? Do men see this far differently than women?

Probably some do see it differently, but I guess for me, maybe the person's life experiences would be a factor in how they view the film, more than their gender.

I would imagine you could ask the same question of any film. What is it about this film in particular that inspired the question? Is there a specific aspect of it that you are referring to?

Talked to him loads, he was always fine with me but when he joined Maiden a lot of people got the hump with him - local boy does good also he quit Wolfsbane so that annoyed a few as they were local rock legends by then... Anyway, he's just a regular bloke in a bar with a few tales to tell. After Maiden he played a few local gigs as 'Blaze' they even did live rehearsals at the pub for anyone who cared to watch! He's back with Wolfsbane now and still see him about, he even came to watch my band once, but I doubt he was actually all that impressed!!

@glomps and nibbles I should probably say for anyone else reading this and wondering what we're on about, Blaze Bayley is a singer who replaced Bruce Dickinson in Iron Maiden in the 90s for a few years and they released a song called 'Man on the Edge' which was a retelling of the events in 'Falling Down': The freeway is jammed and it's backed up for miles The car is an oven and baking is wild Nothing is ever the way it should be What we deserve we just don't get you see
A briefcase, a lunch and a man on the edge Each step gets closer to losing his head Is someone in heaven are they looking down 'Cause nothing is fair just you look around
Falling down
He's sick of waiting of lying like this There's a hole in the sky for the angels to kiss Branded a leper because you don't fit In the land of the free you just live by your wits
Once he built missiles a nation's defence Now he can't even give birthday presents Across the city he leaves in his wake A glimpse of the future a cannibal state
Falling down
The freeway is jammed and it's backed up for miles The car is an oven and baking is wild Nothing is ever the way it should be What we deserve we just don't get you see
A briefcase, a lunch and a man on the edge Each step gets closer to losing his head Is someone in heaven are they looking down 'Cause nothing is fair just you look around

Yeah, possibly his finest moment (other than Wolfsbane! )

Nice one! Another (fairly) local band to me - although before my time - Black Sabbath formed in Birmingham about 20 miles from where I live in the Midlands! Loads of great bands from around here, Duran Duran are probably the next biggest...!

That is true...I guess the film just seems to beat the drum of the "obsolete male" so that prompted the thought. I'm sure everything effects everything, but this film seems pretty unique in the underlying rage that is feeding it.

Wow, that's crazy. I didn't know the connection to the film...the topic probably deserves it's own thread! I just checked out the song.
So, was it made independently of the film, or did they coordinate officially somehow? If it was independent, I wonder why they felt the need to re-express what was in the film? They obviously get it in the lyrics. Thanks for sharing the connection...and that explains why you always think of the film!

Ok, I see. Yeah, that makes sense. You could see something like Fight Club the same way. And maybe with the recent rise of Gender Politics we might see more films exploring these sorts of issues in the near future.
