Discuter de The Firm

I had always assumed he was killed by the firm. But while watching it with my wife today, she suggested he may have committed suicide. Devasher said he wanted Tolar taken back to Memphis, so why would they have killed him?

Interesting that you read it as a murder initially. My assumption was that he committed suicide. I don't remember all the specifics, but I got the idea that his interactions with the wife kind of pushed him over the edge.

He was being decent with her. He didn't take advantage of him, and that her doing what she was doing for Mitch was better than her being there to see him...so he was also putting himself down. When she asked him, "What are they doing to do to you" and he said, "whatever it is, they did it a long time ago," my take on that was he was going to die. They ended his life when they told them what the firm really was. But I still didn't get a sense that meant he was going to take his own life. But now it make sense.

Well, I suppose it could be taken either way. Like I said, I don't remember the specifics. I wonder how it went down in the book.

I read the book first, which is outstanding...but the movie is very different from the middle of the film on. I don't even remember if that whole copying of the files goes down in the book.

Ah, I see. I've thought about reading the book. I might try it sometime.

As much as I love the movie, the book is beyond sensational. I read it in three days...which for me is nothing short of a miracle.

For me as well. I'm a very slow reader, and if I remember correctly, The Firm is practically a tome.

Something like 500 pages I think.

OK, so you've had some time. Did you read it? :)

Haha, no, I haven't. I've been moving at less than a snail's pace in my reading lately, I'm ashamed to admit. I have, however, watched the movie again - not too long ago, actually. :)

Ok…four years later. Have you read the book? 😀
