Případ Sloane bediscussiëren

Why would Miss Sloane put up her career on the line and risk going jail for 5 years, without any expectation of a reward or an increase in her winning chances?

Did she knew beforehand that as soon as she would provide gun lobbyist with the bait, that they will necessarily approach a senator who is AGAINST gun lobby, and will try to make him compromise? As if there are no other senators who already are in their pocket!! How did she knew exactly who will approach the senator?

Yes, somewhat far-fetched but I suppose they portrayed the lead character as having a very unhealthy obsession with winning at all costs. As she herself concedes.

This was fair enough to me. Sloane had an informant in her old firm's camp who told her that the senator was being approached. For me the elements that damaged the film in terms of defying belief were:

  • the ridiculous remote controlled cockroach recorder (why do films go for such hair brained stuff instead of just asking a security consultant or doing a bit of research?

  • the somewhat contrived shooting twist - although I am aware that there is precedent for an individual to be the victim of multiple gun-crime.

  • for Sloane to lie under oath about illegal surveillance, then use her trump card as being the result of illegal surveillance (I presume that was why she was imprisoned rather than the Indonesian expenses form, but it's not clear)

  • for Sloane to allow her attorney at the end to say that she had no statement to make. The senator could have quickly closed proceedings and prevented her from making the revelation.

Despite that, this was a decent exploration of the role of money in US politics.

She knew she is workaholic and has serious problem, as she said it was either career suicide or suicide by career, she clearly in the end chose to prioritize health over career, so she didn't care even spending some time in jail, heck it's good meditation rertreat for her.

There clearly was increase in her winning the case, she was good chess player looking many moves ahead, so it was calculated risk.
