"Hey Papi, mind if I said wow!" -- John Leguizamo in "Mambo Mouth". This tongue in cheek phrase best captures my appreciation of Mahershali Ali in Hidden Figures. In this role, his piercing eyes do all the talking, and its electrifying to watch. I think he's the best thing in Hidden Figures (followed by Octavia Spencer -- aka Earth Mother Incarnate).

I first knew him in "House of cards" and he is extremely good in it. When I heard he was cast for that role in Hidden Figures opposite Taraji Henson, I was very happy. I think he did a good job in the role but their romance didn't quite stand out to me. To me, their scenes were not really memorable but he was OK in that role.

surprised he wasn't nominated for best supporting actor in this movie too. only had about 10 minutes of screen time (<<sarcasm)
