Why would the corporeal seduce Edwina, lead her on, ask to come to her room that night... and then instead go to Alicia's room! I mean, he had to know the poop would hit the fan. Maybe not entirely foreseen the fall out from his inane decision (why not sleep with Edwina and then on the side grab some Alicia?? Had he and managed to keep it all hush hush; he could have had a nice stay, maybe forever?).
Made no sense to me. Maybe in the novel it plays out more logically or in the original (have not seen it yet).

I don't think this is good enough movie to also properly justify the motives of the characters. The delicate and nuanced situation was not properly handled by the director, that preferred to focus on irrelevant details and largely missing the point. The apple did fall quite far from the tree, although someone still had an idea to make apple pie from it.

You should watch the original with Clint Eastwood, it's way better and actually explains why the characters do what they do. This movie sucked so bad. I gave it 2/10.

Yeah, this was the one thing that confused me, as well! I guess maybe he just got cocky and thought he could score twice in one night?

Unfortunately, this version of the story is lacking all of the details and intrigue of the original film.
Do yourself a big favor and watch the original 1971 version.
This movie took everything good and interesting about the original and tossed it out. It was then replaced with terrible lighting and enough soft focus to induce a headache.
