Debate Death Race 2050

There are a lot of laughs and smirks all which are all generated from meant to be dead serious scenes in the film(also a lot of meant to be humor that hits here and there as well), but I'm not saying this crazy, over the top, campy, ridiculous flick will be for most folks, anyone expecting anything but what I've described will be sorrily disappointed. I actually got some laughs from reading the 1/10 reviews on IMDb, you know those hugely detailed thesis type reviews from people who spent more time and energy writing than the film's writers took to punch out the actual script while they got stoned and drunk.

Recommended HIGHLY to watch with friends, drunk or sober you will have fun with it. Frankly I found the other very seriously done Statham type Death Race film's to be utterly stupid because the entire affair was in itself so ridiculous that it was very hard to take serious as an action flick. Whereas this film shoots it right or wrong, or maybe just right, f'k knows but I dug it more than mostly all of SyFy's other various flicks, especially the shark related ones(somehow the being good from being bad didn't ring true with me for mostly all of them and I found them to be nowhere near as funny/entertaining as in this case).

I should add that I saw it on Tv with commercial breaks(just now), this has a way of helping or hurting a film, but in this case I must say it helped(even though it was censored and GOOD scenes likely cut) . I could watch this again, even though I'm a bit ashamed to say it. And if you can't tolerate my 2 cents then 🖕 feel free to hate it though, it's certainly your right to, hey maybe start your own thread and write a two dozen paragraph breakdown of how much you do, I will enjoy reading it🙃.

Well JD, I watched the trailer for the film and from what I saw in it I would guess you probably summed up the film about right. From the trailer I'd say it looks like they intended this flick to kind of spoof the Stratham film and others like it.

I like films like this. When I read poor reviews from bookish, serious, film critics I have to laugh. Some of them are way too uptight, take themselves way too seriously, and are too stuck up for some types of comedy. If they hate it that much I am betting it is worth a watch. It is possible to contrast "Independence Day" with "Mars Attacks" and criticize the latter for not treating the subject matter seriously, but that really misses the point, doesn't it? LOL

I will look for this on Netflix, or maybe rent it somewhere if I can. Thanks for your comments.

I just watched this film on Netflix and I loved it. lol This film spoofs a lot of other films I think. I didn't see it and don't recall the name but there was a movie out about a year ago about an annual government suspension of laws against murder; it was a way of population control. And it spoofs the Death Race series, and a lot of the old cross country race movies of course.

SPOILERS It was clear from the first moments of the film that it is a campy, silly, crazy comedy. It's about an annual cross country race in which drivers are awarded points for killing pedestrians along the way, to help control over population. Manu Bennett (Crixus in Spartacus, Allanon in The Shannara Chronicles) plays "Frankenstein", the champion racer for the past 3 years. There is a sub plot involving a revolutionary group which wants to kill Frankenstein, and tries to do so several times. And there is an up and coming rival racer named Jed Perfectus who battles Frankenstein for the lead throughout the movie.

This is one of those movies which was written and intended to be a cheap B movie at best, the kind of film that can become a cult classic, so bad it's good. There are a few gratuitous tittie shots, lots of fake corpses with blood pumps, goofy characters, puns, and assorted bad jokes. I can think of some drinking games you could make up for this film. I have liked Manu Bennett since I saw Spartacus where he played Crixus, 'the undefeated Gaul'. This is the first time I've seen him in a comedy.
Malcolm McDowell plays "The Chairman" and he oversees the whole race. I didn't know any of the other actors.

This isn't everyone's kind of movie. So if you don't like this kind of film, skip it. Check out the trailer for the film and see what I'm talking about
