Many times you will hear the criticism of one film being a rip off of another film because they will take the story and change up a little details here and there and release it. When they get called out for it they say something to the effect of , "Oh well, yes indeed such and such film was a great inspiration for me idea but this is completely new." However, in the case of Get Out, which you cannot tell me Peele did not bore the idea of this film from watching Being John Malkovich, ( I mean, it has Catherine Keener in it FFS) is a horse of a different color (no pun intended). But the difference is it is not a blatant rip off. He took a core component from that story and came up with his own original tale. This is what legit inspiration looks like. Needless to say, I love both films and Get Out did something right that I rarely agree with and that is the insertion of comic relief in an otherwise serious story. When his buddy at the end busts out with his TSA be handling it spiel I was practically ROFL. Perfect ending. I heard there was an alternate ending with the protagonist getting arrested. That would have been dumb. I'm glad they nixed that. Any who, great film. I highly recommend.

I guess I missed the part in Get Out where John Malkovich is a puppet…

That would have been a blatant rip off which is my point. This is NOT a blatant rip off.
