Okay film for Studio Ponoc, can't help but think of Ghibli while watching - with the young female lead! The house felt like Arietty and she's like Chihiro from Spirited Away esp the stairs scene. The things chasing her while flying, hating the boy then being connected, the house on the island and the not so villainy villains - very Ghibli!
I actually liked it when she was given the tour of the school. Was expecting more scenes there like the classes and student life - it was like a cool Hogwarts! It would have stood out for me if they had more time there before revelation.

A lot of competence in various aspects but it felt like watching a polished tribute act going through the motions rather than something artistic being created because the director was desperate to tell the story. Not quite as good as the director's Ghibli work with Arrietty and When Marnie Was There. I think would have liked it as a kid though and it is entirely watchable. I could only see the dubbed version and the voice acting was pretty darn good.
