Maybe it's the lack of Judd Apatow or someone with more sophisticated approach, but this liberal fantasy is lukewarm meal in best case. While even in Apatow movies the jokes don't always work, but his movies always have something deeper and more significant to say. Long Shot lacks even that and doesn't go above very simple and superficial ideas that appeal mostly to viewers with liberal world view. There is some reversed power play and sort of reversed idea of the usual political romcoms, in which a man was the one in power and the woman was the changing factor. Here it's reversed as suitable for liberal feminist fantasy. Few nice jokes and cringes, but none of these ideas have any teeth or unique sting. Everything is flat and really harmless.
Jonathan Levine is a nice director, he does a nice job in his previous movies, in which he developed his ability to be lukewarmly harmless. So as a silly romcom goes this movie is watchable, but don't expect any additional value or anything memorable.
