I think people were either to critical of the destruction hence the BvS plot or they didnt think ''this was their superman''. When you actually watch the film, its a pretty good story. The superman baggage just make people review it lower than it should be

I like this movie more now than when I first saw it. It sort of grows on you. I've been able to jettison my expectations over the past few years and have realized it's not a bad movie.

I'm a huge fan of the original Superman film and still consider it the greatest superhero film ever made. When I saw they were going to rehash the General Zod storyline for Man Of Steel I wasn't even sure I'd go see it.
However curiosity got the better of me in the end and I found myself surprisingly blown away by this film - it really was the perfect modern retelling of the origin storyline, and I loved how they worked in Clark's growing up through the flashbacks. I even loved the much hated Pa Kent "dog self-sacrifice". And the Smallville showdown scene was the best cgi battle I'd seen at that point.
My only disappointment is that they spun the DCEU off the back of this. I really wish we'd just had a contained Superman sequel...

Snyder is underrated... It'll be great to see him return to non-comic book fare as it will allow him more freedom in making movies...

Snyder has made one good film. Dawn of the Dead.
Everything else, EVERYTHING ELSE, is trash.

Zack Snyder is like Micheal Bay. If Micheal Bay was completely pretentious. Bay doesn't pretend to be making high brow Entertainment. Zack Snyder's Watchman felt like someone read the book. But only liked it for its the sex and violence. Snyder doesn't get things like subtlety and nuance. So he can't recreate that from a book that was filled subtlety and nuance. The book wasn't about making "superhero look cool". It was about taking Superhero tropes and turn them on there head.
As for Man of Steel. Im sorry but its horrible. The villian is whinny angry little virgin that so afraid of the female vagina that he wants tarraform a planet. Say what you want about Superman 2's General Zod. But im pretty sure he got laid. If Zod wanted save his people. He should have started an Orgy. Not to mention its A planet that gives him Superpowers. General Zod could be the cold hearted ruler of all humanity. But he would rather work at the Krypton 7-11. The movie is filled with pretentious symbolism that it makes my eyes bleed. Plus Pa Kent is paranoid schizophrenic who sacrifice himself because he actually think the government can do something to a man who is bullet proof and can move planets if needed. Not to mention hes o.k. with letting kids drown in a bus. And when it comes the long boring never ending final battle. Ehh who gives a $hit about millions of innocent civilian death , right. At least Superman saved Lois Lane. That all that matters. It seems that the only people he really cares about saving. Is his mother and the woman he wants to bang. And don't give me this B.S. about "He saved people by punching some boring a$$ machine."

Yes, he redeemed himself from that Watchmen crap.

To be honest, I think I forced myself to like it but looking back on it, it's not something that I would go out of my to watch again. All the moodiness made it feel like Superboy over Superman. But there were some stunning sequences, with him drowning in the skulls was straight up amazing.

Zack Snyder didn't "lighten things up" in Justice League, that was done by Joss Whedon after Snyder was fired.
