Let's just say that the movie wasn't off to a good start when that dreaded "N" logo popped up again because....well.....Netflix's movies have been absolute garbage with very few exceptions and even those exceptions only being mediocre movies.
Anyways, I'm only half way through, but this seems to be again one of those movies with strong independent women showing men they are just as capable as them in everything. You have the usual and these days expected political correctness with an indian(?) Lestrade and Enola's black female martial arts instructor who seemed to have taught our protagonist stuff you'd expect to see in a modern day submission wrestling or perhaps MMA match (such as the "Imanari roll") and not in Victorian era England. The movie seems to revolve around the women's right to vote. Not sure why they hide the matter so much during the first hour of the movie because it seems quite obvious to anyone with two functioning brain cells what the women's secret meetings, protests, vague news headlines and discussions etc. are about even though they do their best not to mention it.
Not sure why Henry Cavill decided to take part in this. His role seems to be mostly a supporting one. I suppose the coronavirus hasn't been easy on actors either and they probably don't have as many job opportunities as they used to.
Well, here's hoping it gets better on the second half, but based on past experiences I don't have high hopes.

It's entertaining enough to watch, but it's obviously nothing remarkable. Millie Bobby Brown is surprisingly charismatic and a good actress to hold a movie, as oppose to other teen stars like Chloë Grace Moretz that died out as they grew older because the simple reason of being not good.
Still too soon to judge her, but she shows much better signs of potential. Other actors here are flat and dull, and function only as a setup for Brown's swiping charisma. Henry Cavill clearly has very limited range of acting skills and it's another big hat off to the casting directors of The Witcher that found him the only role he can do successfully.
Overall the movie is a wink to young viewers from first world countries with privileges they accept as granted and that hold liberal/progressive views. Like the Lord Tewkesbury's line at the end, it says to the old world order - your time is over. It has nothing to do with reality, but it's a pleasantly optimistic sentiment.

I thought it was fun.
The only thing I didn't like was that they glossed over Mama Holmes' original plan, which appeared to be to bomb parliament.

He didn't do Superman successfully, or you don't know what "successfully" means.

The word that comes to mind while watching this is "pretentious".
MBB may have a certain charm about her, but the whole breaking of the fourth wall was very cringey.

I agree. It may have been cute in the beginning, but using it in every other scene got old really fast.
I should also say that even though it wasn't really a movie about Sherlock or Mycroft it was one of the poorest depictions of those character's I've seen on film. I don't mean the acting necessarily, but just how they were portrayed in the film.

I found it an easy-watch for a Friday evening, but nothing spectacular. The trailer was better than the film itself. I quite liked the breaking of the fourth wall, and I thought it lended itself well to the story and I also loved the visuals. However, I am quite surprised to read people's opinions on thinking the Millie carried the film well. I wouldn't say she was bad, but I definitely got the one-hit-wonder vibes of her. She felt too much like herself and too little like the character. Down to the accent which she certainly has dropped having living on and off in the States from such a young age. For someone who lives in England, especially in the scenes with other well-spoken Brits, it definitely ruined the illusion for me. But, she is only 16, so she gets a pass. As far as the other characters and storylines; well nothing or no one had any depth to them. This must be the absolute worst take on the Holmes' brothers I've ever seen. Story wise, nothing is really concluded or reasoned. Even the whole premise of the whole film - finding her mother - is resolved abruptly and it's quite confusing as to why she would've even left her the notes if she didn't want to be found.

"Woke" sht. I was wondering why Cavill agreed to play there, but it seems pecunia non olet.
