Aaaand we are back to harmless, insignificant and useless animation. Not every animated movie can be Puss in Boots, I guess. Super Mario is not aiming too high in any aspect, it's just a factory made harmless product safe for everyone. The animation is dull 3d without a single spark of imagination, the dialogs are very childish and serve no purpose except to advance that simple story, and the humor is almost non-existent, with only one successful joke through the entire movie, and even that was a slapstick one. The entire thing is not even aimed to the higher age of the viewers. From the quality of the animation and the characters I think the target audience are children aged 3-5, not older. Really disappointing and pointless movie that only causes boredom.

The only nice element in the movie was that morbid blue star Lumalee with few great lines. It feels like the studio was so careful not to offend anyone, they allowed only one strange character to appear under 1 minute of total screentime just to be safe. And as it usually happens, that was the only character in the movie that made sense, especially at the end when he plays a saxophone. In the random, meaningless and indifferent universe the only thing that is helpful is art. Just not the kind that this movie represents.
