讨论 Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

After the death of King T'Challa's (aka Black Panther) (Chadwick Boseman), his sister Princess Shuri (Letitia Wright) is expected to assume the mantle of Black Panther.

Will she be a worthy successor and become Wakanda's greatest hero now?

Honestly, Princess Shuri is my favorite character in the BP universe. I find her to be a positive, refreshing challenge to the bitch/ho' representations of black females so prevalent in mainstream cinema.

Tossing aside all the racist/sexist mess that still seems to go with many of our American ideas of what makes a hero, why wouldn't she be a worthy successor to you-know-who?

And finally, this is not to mislead anyone--it's just an observation--I find Letitia Wright to be cute.

Shuri was my favorite part/character of, in my opinion, a very boring movie.

I'm with you on that, believe it or not. Even a pretty damn good cast can turn out a leaden film. Everyone's pretty much S.A.F. (stiff as fuck) in the first one. I loved the characters T'Chaka, Shuri, and definitely Killmonger. Kill made me laugh, he made me cry... here's hoping he shows up in this one.

Wow. Just for curiousity no malice intended what was interesting about her?

I know that wasn't addressed to me, but--if I may--Shuri's scientific/technological prowess and obvious intelligence are what make her so interesting to me. I believe her to be a very positive role model for young black girls who may find no solace in representations of wanton, nasty, (non-physically) ugly, self-loathing, betraying and even "bitchified" black women that are so familiar to us in cinema.

The trick to this kind of thinking is, with films with all or nearly all-black casts, a so-called negative black character may be required. And that character may be a black female. But... you get me or not?

Because she was smart & funny. It's been a while since I've seen it & I only watched it once. But the character really stood out for me.

BTW, when I wrote "bitchified" up above, I was referencing a certain black intellectual who's not with us anymore. I believe she meant it to be about women who've basically been turned by social conditioning into bitches....
