If the prequel was made back in 2010 it might have turned out good. But given the current state of Hollywood and political correctness having gone mad, this movie will more than likely end up being dog $h!t. The original show would never have been allowed to air in today's world and if it did, it would be heavily censored. This movie is going to be pure ass. Calling it right now, they're going to feature a gay/interracial couple, despite the movie being set in the 1970s and the characters in the show were against such things.

Definitely a call for this! The Sopranos was groundbreaking when it came out, paving the way for many great shows and genres on cable that are bingeworthy. Despite others misgivings about a prequel, showing the climate of social injustice and unrest in the 1960s will be interesting. Current events regarding race and inequity make this extra appealing to watch.

Bring on the mix-raced couples and gay/bi/straight/divorced/single/married/cheating characters. Definitely taboo within the timeframe but still existed in real life. Seeing how things changed or stayed the same over time will be interesting. The 1960s were a great time of civil unrest where so much was in flux where many brave souls had the courage to show up and risk (and many lose) their lives to stand up for freedoms that are taken for granted today.

The Sopranos is about the mob, not social justice. Literally, no one expects the Sopranos to be anything but that.

Hey, just letting everyone know that I'm eating crow.

I went to see this movie, I still don't think it was necessary and it wasn't great, but it was good, and I enjoyed it.

I would still be more interested in a sequel to The Sopranos, with Tony either re-cast if he survived the diner, or a movie without Tony if he was killed (I am personally of the opinion that he was not killed in that final episode, despite what David Chase may now say in the years after James Gandolfini's actual death [Chase was much more circumspect about it prior to Gandolfini's passing], but I am really not interested in getting into a back-and-forth about it now).

Doesn't it take place in 1967? They mention it was the Summer of Love which was in 1967.

Evidently although tbh I don't know why. The Sopranos was brilliant but this prequel stinks. It's poorly acted and written. I don't know what David Chase was thinking. So many things in this movie was inaccurate and offensive. The riots in Newark that seems to make up the backbone had nothing to do with tensions between blacks and Italians. (The riot was actually caused by a cop beating a black cab driver). So the shoot out in the street between the African Americans and the mob guys was imo pure bull. I did think that the scenes where Ray Liotta's character beating his new wife recalled some scenes from The Godfather. I wouldn't say that was the norm either. Nobody I know would dream about slapping their spouse around. That is imo a good way to get whacked ie shot in the back of the head. Lol. But I digress. People like mob movies and the like the idea of being a gangster. Personally there are so many better pictures that portray the life more accurate and in a more positive light.
