One of the my favorite scenes in the movie is when the natives of the planet that Kirk and Company are trying to save see the Enterprise rising out of the water and then start worshipping it.
This scene reminded me of a real life uncontacted tribe called the Sentinelese. They live on North Sentinel island, which is part of the Andaman island archipelago in the Indian Sea.
It is estimated that this tribe has been living on their island for the last 60,000 (yes, that's right) years. Very little is known about them, since they are VERY xenophobic and all attempts made by the rest of the world to establish first contact with them usually ends up with them killing the visitors. They are considered to be the most isolated tribe in the world. Everytime I watch STID, I always wonder what the reaction from the Sentinelese would be if they saw a Starship rising up out of the ocean and flying away.

They'd be taking pics and videos with their cell phones, and posting them on youtube.

I really like the opening of STID too - it's funny because although I read some people claim Beyond was the most like the TOS, for me the first 15 mins of this film is the only time in three entire films that comes close...

@Dark_Sithlord Actually, it is believed that the Sentinelese have NO technology of any sort.

@The Midi-chlorian Count I don't understand why some fans think that STB is closest to the TOS. You're right about the first 15 minutes of STID being more like TOS. It brings The Prime Directive to the Kelvin timeline.
