I worked at a place once where a person was going through their transition. There was a lot of anger, I remember, about how they were going into the women's restroom. Everyone was up in arms about it being dangerous, wrong, etc. I don't think this particular case ever was seriously a safety issue to be honest. There were a lot of off color jokes and derogatory comments made by people on the staff that worked in the office with me. I chose to ignore all of this, and just treated the person like a human being. The person later thanked me for just being cool to them, and not judgmental like so many others were. I know it had to be messed up for them some nights on our shift.

Later, I worked at another place, where I guess the company was more "progressive". When we were all there for orientation, the guy giving us a tour of the building said, "Choose a restroom to use." This was a huge contrast from about 6 years earlier, with someone more or less being told to use the men's room, even though they were a transitioning MTF.
