There was a making of this film and the 'Towering Inferno' made the following year. Behind the scenes of this popular flick showed Gene Hackman and Leslie Nielsen both in character costume talking about the film's making. Most of the rest of the behind the scenes showed the crowds of extras being directed for certain scenes that were supposed to be on the ship but were actually filmed in a studio.

I haven't seen the making-of or bloopers reels you've mentioned, but always find it neat how filming of shipboard disaster movies is gone about. In large part (for many type scenes) nothing about the actual set moves any - just the performers all do (in unison), following off-camera direction such as, "Everyone sway left. Now everyone plunge forward", etc. Meanwhile the camera careens about to create the illusion of the ship moving violently.

Some of what I talked about can be found at YouTube: "The Poseidon Adventure-AMC backstory". Also, there is a video there called "Beyond the Poseidon Adventure: Making of". That latter is on the sequel. See my old postings for other blooper locations at YouTube on other shows.
