OMG, I forgot how much fun this movie is. I just watched it again since probably the first time since at least the 90s and it is a certified banger. What always stopped me from returning to it was remembering just how dark and depressing the film is but it does have a point. Sure the main villain is a bit cartoony (I am referring to the executive Dick Jones not the street punk Bodicker) but the point of having private corporations have too much control of public service such as police departments AND military (looking at you military industrial complex) can spell doom for society and a nation. It showed that even though a corporation could be getting into it with the best intentions, as the old man at the top of company seemed like a good chap, all it takes is some money hungry asshole to turn the tables on the situation.
But besides the veiled social commentary message the film had, which BTW this is how Hollywood used to present its social engineering messages and not the ham fisted, hit you over the head with a sledgehammer woke way they do it today, the film is just a lot of fun! I busted out loud laughing when Bodicker busts into Morton's house and just says, "Bitches, leave!" 🤣. Or the awesome phony commercials peppered throughout the film such as showing the 6000 SUX having 8.5 MPG. Even that guy that was holding the mayor hostage was like, "I want a fancy car, with leather interior, bucket seats and shitty gas mileage!!" . I saw someone mention on one of the other threads on here that it is a classic and I can attest that it most certainly is. I also noticed that the main villain is the same actor Verhoeven used as the main villain in Total Recall. I guess that dude got typecast as an asshole. 😛Plays a great asshole BTW.

Yeah dude. No boners 🍆to counter balance that ultra violence. They shoulda thrown some T&A in those "I'm buy that for a dollar!" scenes. Only the unisex cop's locker room showed some boobies.

Dina Meyer. She was stunning. I wish she'd made it big, she was a lot hotter than many of the movie stars we got.

Definitely!
Verhoeven's unique satirical vision comes from him himself being an outsider in America. He said somewhere that when he made Robocop he was new to the country and was shocked by the amount of adverts on tv. I think being outside something can allow you a unique viewpoint on it.

Absolutely. So much easier when you are outside looking in, no question.

Yes, before they start doing that plastic surgery crap. Look at what happen to Renée Zellweger. She was unbelievably cute in the early years and then became practically unrecognizable. I think most actors who make it big end up not living in Hollywood full time. That town is too damn depressing.

Movie looks terrible. But good for her. Glad to see she is still working steadily.

She hasn't aged badly. She doesn't look all Zellwegered up.

Definitely not. If she had work done it was very minimal.
