De Franse geitenboer Philippe wil zijn kaasmakerij verplaatsen naar het Italiaanse Cherosgna, net over de grens. Eerst is de plaatselijke bevolking nog wat sceptisch, maar men ontvangt de nieuwkomers toch met open armen; eindelijk nieuw leven in het bijna doodgebloede dorp! De vreugde blijkt van korte duur.

The aging, conservative population of a small, sleepy village in the Italian Alps are surprised to see that a former French professor has settled there with his young wife and their three children to produce goat cheese, in order to escape the wrongs of civilization. At first they are suspicious of his unconventional ideas and lifestyle, then are conquered by the enthusiasm, kindness, helpfulness of the young family and start to see in them a possible rebirth of the place. But little by little misunderstandings, envy and conflicts take over.

Un berger français, après la construction d'une centrale nucléaire, décide de quitter sa région des Pyrénées pour s'installer avec sa femme et ses enfants à Chersogno, un petit village italien de montagne où l'on parle l'occitan. D'abord bien accueilli par la population, il va vite être en butte à l'hostilité des villageois...

Chersogno egy nyugodt kis falu a nyugati Alpokban. Néhány öreg él itt csupán és nyaranta pár turista. Mindent megváltoztat azonban Phillipe és családjának érkezése, akiket eleinte tárt karokkal fogadnak, később viszont felüti fejét a féltékenység és az intrika, így hamarosan két táborra szakad az egykor nyugodt közösség.

Philippe, ex professore dedicatosi alla pastorizia sui Pirenei francesi, è alla ricerca di una nuova sistemazione per la sua famiglia, dato che nel luogo in cui vive è in costruzione una centrale nucleare. Dopo aver inutilmente cercato casa in Svizzera, nel fare ritorno in Francia si ritrova nella Valle Maira, nel paesino di Chersogno, ormai spopolato e abitato quasi unicamente da anziani, visto che il resto degli abitanti raggiunge il piccolo borgo montano soltanto per trascorrevi le vacanze nei mesi estivi.
