I had the feeling this was a bit of a satire on the pseudo intellectuals of the art world who think they are the only ones who "understand" modern art. Such a boon to the con artists who parade their rubbish as talent and make millions at it. At any rate - I wondered how Berenice had managed to survive so long in the world with the lack of instinct and intelligence that she displayed. First of all she challenges James on his cunning plan to fake a painting - and he pushes her head in the bath water and nearly drowns her for her trouble - so what does she do when she recovers - phone the police - knock on a neighbours door - run away - heck no - just sit on the stairs and wait for him to come and get her - and when he does come and takes her back to the apartment - can she shut her trap - nah - she's a woman - off she goes again - I almost forgave him for finishing the job. So now he paints a "picture" which looks like somebody vomited three dozen blood oranges onto a canvas and for some reason he leaves a fingerprint in the middle of the painting which he somehow didn't notice. After consigning Berenice to the very bottom of the lake - at least three feet deep - he returns to fame and fortune - and paranoia. If only about Mick Jagger's "acting." - The only decent thing in this film was Donald Sutherland.
