I was excited to see The Chameleon on Netflix after reading about it on the message board for the documentary The Imposter. I had already seen The Imposter at a documentary film festival in my city and loved it. I watched it again on Netflix earlier today and it was as incredible as I remember.
The Chameleon, as others have pointed out, pales in comparison. I thought it was cool that someone had made a dramatized film version of this true story, but unfortunately the result is just not very good. Right away it had a cheap TV movie sort of quality to it (it actually felt more like a TV show than a movie), and I gave it about 18 minutes before I turned it off.
Maybe it's just because The Imposter is SO good and I watched that one first and already knew the story. If I had watched this one on its own without comparing it to The Imposter it might have been different, but I doubt it.
Watch The Imposter, skip this one.
