Hondo was one of John Wayne’s big hits, but I never saw it until recently. Just the usual 2d version, not the 3D it was released in. It’s got all the classic elements - Wayne as the stoic tough but honest hero, an endearing romantic lead (Geralidne Page had an oscar nomination for it), great backdrop, and plenty of Cowbow vs Indians action. It’s not a classic like Red River or Searchers, but Hondo is still a solid western done in the good old-fashioned way.
