This film represents a welcome return to what I now realise was actually the peak years of the Bond series. If you forget For Your Eyes Only then:-
The Spy Who Loved Me
Moonraker
Octopussy
is the best Bond has ever been. It really was Sir Roger's sweat spot - before, and JW Pepper aside, the films were still veering too much towards Sir Sean's slap a women across the face with the back of his hand hardness; and after, he was just too old to be playing the character without sadly seeming a bit of a bloated caricature...
However this middle period really was the golden era, when James Bond pretty much defined it's own genre. In years to come, when the current cinematic fad of "realism" in our action / super hero films has past, these Moore films will come to be regarded as the zenith of the Bond series. Thank you Sir Roger 👍

I'd rather forget Octopussy. Nothing against Roger Moore. The Spy Who Loved Me is my favorite Bond film, but I never liked Octopussy.

A view to a kill gets a bad rap, but I think I like it better than most 007 films since then. Plus, it had a great theme song.

Can't say I'm hugely enthusiastic about Octopussy, but I appreciate your recognition of Moonraker's excellence (it's become trendy to crap on it despite it being a collection of some of the series' golden moments with a great villain and Rodge on top form) and I agree that this era was amazing. I'd include Dalton's The Living Daylights - my favourite Bond film, and featuring Barry's final, incredible score.

I really liked For Your Eyes Only. Moonraker was kind of fun, but a bit over the top (it did get a deserved Oscar nomination for Best Visual Effects). Octopussy wasn't bad.
The Living Daylights is my 3rd favorite movie of all time, and John Barry's soundtrack is incredible.

Octopussy is the best of Moore's tenure.
I just wish it was his last Bond so he really could have gone out on an All Time High.
