讨论 Evil Dead Rise

I wouldn't go so far to say that it's horrible, but compared to the original films, the remake, and the tv show, it comes dead last as far as Evil Dead content. The gore is pretty decent though, and the woman that plays the possessed mom was pretty good, but it's otherwise a waste of good concept and setting. It takes place in an apartment building but stays mainly in just that apartment and the hallway outside of it.

The characters are just god awful. They were even more generic than usual and I just did not care about any of them. They are all kind of dumb and don't react to the gore/possession in the way a normal person would, way too accepting and not asking enough questions. You have characters having to kill possessed people they care about and there's no real emotion there at all.

And the worst part might be how not fun any of it is? Like, the other Evil Dead movies had a sense of humor to them. Even the remake had some really great dark humor. This one is just playing it too seriously. Towards the end the deadites kind of dish out some smack-talk, but there needed to be far more fun gore scenes. Only the elevator scene was kind of over the top, but otherwise it was just blah.

Didn't hate it, but it was a massive disappointment.

This one is very much in the vein of the first flick. It's a serious horror movie, and not tongue in cheek like the second and AOD.

Yes, I would agree with you, which is exactly why I didn't enjoy it. EVERYBODY agrees that ED2 is better than ED1, and even most people like myself love AOD over ED1. The remake was appropriately serious while also having fun moments mixed in with the dark humor and the gore. The remake is one of the few remakes I think actually threaded that needle of being familiar but different enough while not being awful.

EDR feels, dare I say, very cookie cutter. Not terrible, it does bring the gore and it has its moments, but it just lacks that underlining fun element that even the first ED had. Like, I knew the little girl was going to live. I was hoping the little girl would turn and be a little monster. That would have been fun.

The first still felt wild and experimental, like the creators didn't want to impose any boundaries on their own imaginations. I really liked the Ash TV series as well, some moments in it were absolutely bonkers and hilarious. The remake of 2013 was forgettable, although it was a decent watch. Also this one, there was nothing innovative or truly exceptional about this movie. They just followed all the standard scare jumps of an average horror with paranormal entities.

And that's the problem, that this movie suffers from the same disease as many Hollywood products in recent years - they take average and mostly unremarkable script and force it into established and familiar brand. I mean, what if this movie had nothing to do with the Evil Dead IP? They could've just make this movie about any random demonic possession, but they had to connect it to the world of Evil Dead and fill it with some references to the original. And while doing that they didn't reveal anything new about this world, didn't do anything innovative or exciting with it. Just a small and standard horror in closed space on a budget. It feels like an abuse of the franchise, a way to get money by being lazy. I don't understand how stuff like that is being approved, you can see from the script that it's weak.
