Slim chance you can. Almost Famous does a great job showing this geeky kid another world. He's not used to what he comes across. From getting a huge job writing for the Rolling Stones, falling for a groupie, and dealing with rockstars.

Never saw Almost Famous, but how do you think it compares to Stand By Me?

I havent scene stand by me in years. but Almost famous is different as it is more about being exposed to a rockstar life style. Less immature things to this movie than stand by me.

I loved this, but not as a coming of age film. I thought everything to do with William was too absurd (but entertaining) for it to pull me in as seeing a boy becoming a man. Better ones in English to reflect ageing / maturing are, in my opinion:
Lost in Translation - (for both leads I'd argue, but Coming of Age only for Johannsen obviously, definitely the film that personally strikes a chord with me in terms of humans maturing)
Sweet Sixteen
City of God - (not typical feelgood coming of age)
