There are certain themes which, when portrayed in an even half-competent film, can hardly fail to incite an emotional reaction from the viewer. This South Korean account of sexual abuse against children in a school for the deaf, adapted from a novel in turn based on true-life events, is no exception. And it is good, very good in fact. The type of movie which elicits a shaking with anger, swearing at the screen kind of response.
It is a powerful film, difficult to watch but even harder to look away from. More is shown, or at least strongly suggested, than is perhaps necessary and it does slip into melodrama, overbearing music etc at times - that common symptom of Korean cinema.
But this comes highly recommended. It is certainly not a film which I will forget quickly (or, to be frank, ever watch again).
