Why did it cost $90 million to make this film?

Castaway had a budget of $90 million. I like the film, I have nothing against it but why the hell did it cost that much to make? Most of the film consists of a single guy on an island.
Consider all the special effects, the costumes, the sets and all the actors that appear in a single episode of Game of Thrones. Does a single episode of GOT cost $90 million to produce?

Sure Tom hanks aint cheap, niether is Helen Hunt. And Marketing is apart of the budget.

It often baffles me what studios spend their money on sometimes. A lot of rom-coms cost around 50 million.
Marketing costs are always separate from the film's budget. So Castaway would have cost a lot more than 90 million.
I guess with TV like Game of Thrones your marketing would be used for an entire season. So it would cost less.
