Very random year but ok...

  1. Interstellar
  2. Whiplash (I thought it was 2015 but Wikipedia claims otherwise)
  3. The Raid 2
  4. Boyhood
  5. What We Do in the Shadows
  6. Wild Tales
  7. When Marnie Was There
  8. X-Men: Days of Future Past
  9. It Follows (again I'm sure this was 2015, but Wikipedia be disagreeing)
  10. Gone Girl

I feel bad for the amount of high profile films in there, but what can I say? I enjoyed X-Men more than I enjoyed Two Days, One Night. Sue me.

But if you give me another ten I'll put The Grand Budapest Hotel in there, I promise :P

Haha not so random. I was going to post these moving backwards (I started from 2016 - my first two lists are posted on the boards for Manchester by the Sea and Amy).

No problem with high profile films - I have plenty on my lists too. I quite liked X-Men: DOFP too, although not as much as Two Days, One Night!

Good stuff on your list, including Whiplash and Gone Girl both of which I liked a lot and narrowly missed my own list. I detested Interstellar but we can't agree on everything!

Really need to see What We Do in the Shadows, Wild Tales and When Marnie Was There... I still have a lot of catching up to do! Hopefully, over time, I can continue to update my watchlist based on replies to these threads.

Ahh, I see. I might contribute to the 2015 one then. Not quite caught up on 2016 yet.

What We Do in the Shadows is the funniest film I've seen in many, many years. Wild Tales surprised me how enjoyable it was. Every story was really well written.

I've seen most of your list, but no idea what Winter Sleep is.

Turkish film based loosely on stories by Chekhov and Dostoyevsky. It won the Palm d'Or. On the surface a seemingly simple tale about the manager of a remote Anatolian hotel, it is in fact an often surprising and quite beautiful film. So much more enthralling than it sounds, and not a moment overlong at 3 hrs 15.

In no particular order:

The Wind Rises

When Marnie Was There

Kaguyahime no monogatari

Maleficent

Age of Uprising: The Legend of Michael Kohlhaas

Lucy

The Boxtrolls

Jodorowsky's Dune

The newer the movie it's less likely I have seen it. I very rarely go to a movie theater, unless it is a movie that needs to be seen on the big screen first. I usually wait until the library gets it or depending on the movie I'll buy it at Target or Amazon.

After rewatching Boyhood for the first time in several years, I have flipped the top two on my list. Not a knock on Winter Sleep, which is a superb and beautiful movie, but Boyhood really is something special, and a contender for my favourite film of the decade.
