It has come to my attention that I have really been slacking on the foreign films the past few years.

(I've amended my list to include Enemy)

It's so hard to track them down sometimes. So few non-English films are released here in Singapore, the exception being terrible Chinese/HK action and comedy movies around Chinese New Year. Otherwise, apart from a few titles which appear at festivals (which, due to my working hours, I am rarely able to catch) or those which have an exceptionally high profile (such as Oscar or Palm winners) I often have to rely on streaming or library rentals. My foreign language watchlist for the past few years is overflowing with films I may never have a chance to see...

Well, you seem to do ok. You have a fair few in your lists that I've never even heard of.

I added Filth to my list here. For some reason Wikipedia is ignoring British films. Bastards.

In no particular order:

From Up on Poppy Hill

56 Up (documentary)

There are still a bunch from this year that I still need to see.

How much did you like Snowpiercer? I have the Blu-Ray but I can't seem to get past the first 20 minutes. Does it get better?

@bratface It gets better, worth watching fully... popcorn helps 😉

Other solid movies in 2013...

  • Enemy
  • Labor Day
  • The Past (Le Passé, a French Iranian movie)
  • Out of The Furnace
  • Prisoners
  • The Best Offer
  • Side Effects

I thought it was great. Can't say I saw a problem with the first 20 mins so maybe it just isn't for you.

All good. Though I haven't seen The Past or The Best Offer. I can't believe I didn't put Enemy in my top ten. Maybe I put it one of my other lists.

The Past is by Asghar Farhadi, the director who gave us A Separation... It's a tense movie...

Haven't seen A Separation yet. I should do. It's prob it's lengthy running time that's holding me back.

Why don't you join in and do your own top tens?

Ok... I just looked it up and it's not actually that long. I must be confusing it with something else.

I'll do so, or recommend some alternatives 👍

I loved it as a brilliantly-paced thriller. Action movies are really not my thing but this was a very good one indeed. To be fair, it's a bit of a drop from my top three to the rest of my list for this year. But Snowpiercer is one worth sticking with.
