I agree, even though I did find the ending a little frustrating to be honest.

I'm good with the ending since it went against the standard Good Guy wins. It makes sense that it would be nearly impossible to outwit a being that's been alive since time began.

It was a nice twist and not very predictable. I feel for his nephew though, he's the one who ends up losing all of his family and home in the process. I would've liked to see a follow-up to that, since it's unlikely that he can just stay with Gretta forever.

I may be reading too much into the background story though.

I absolutely agree that it does make sense that it'd be nearly impossible to outwit a being that's been alive since the beginning of time...

But I'm still not fully okay with the ending because I really wanted our protagonist to defy the odds and triumph over evil anyway.

And, yes, a Hollywoodized happy ending can be tired... so, ultimately, I am mostly okay with the ending.
