The Eurovision Song Contest is an international song competition, organised annually by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and featuring participants representing primarily European countries. Each participating country submits an original song to be performed on live television and radio, transmitted to national broadcasters via the EBU's Eurovision and Euroradio networks, with competing countries then casting votes for the other countries' songs to determine the winner.

The Sanremo Music Festival is the most popular Italian song contest and awards, held annually in the town of Sanremo, Imperia, Italy, and consisting of a competition amongst previously unreleased songs. The Festival was the inspiration for the Eurovision Song Contest.

MGPjr, er en norsk låtskriver- og sangkonkurranse for barn og unge fra 8 til 15 år med musikk som hobby. NRK er arrangør konkurransen, og den første utgaven gikk av stabelen i 2002. Det var den Danske kanalen DR som tok initiativet til skandinavisk finaled da de i 2002 inviterte Norge og Sverige til å delta. Dette ble startskuddet for norske MGPjr.

The Eurovision Dance Contest 2007 was the 1st Eurovision Dance Contest a dance entertainment co-production between the EBU and the BBC. The first ever pan-European dance competition was held on 1 September 2007 in London, United Kingdom with the participation of 16 countries. Viewers cast their votes by telephone and SMS text message voting on each couple's two dances – the first being ballroom or Latin with the second being freestyle, with a "national" flavour.

The first ever winner of the contest was Finland who received a total of 132 points. 2nd place went to Ukraine 3rd to Ireland, 4th to Poland and 5th place to Austria.
