Nancy Reagan, nascuda Nancy Frances Robbins (Nova York, 6 de juliol de 1921 - Bel Air, Los Angeles, 6 de març de 2016), fou una actriu i esposa del 40è president dels EUA, Ronald Reagan. Fou la primera actriu que va obtenir el títol de Primera dama dels Estats Units d'Amèrica.

En sa qualité d'épouse du 40e président des États-Unis Ronald Reagan, elle est la Première dame des États-Unis du 20 janvier 1981 au 20 janvier 1989.

Comme son mari, Nancy Reagan est actrice, jouant au cinéma dans douze films, sous son nom de jeune femme «Nancy Davisa».

Anne Frances, dite Nancy Robbins est la fille unique de Kenneth Seymour Robbins (1894-1972) et de l'actrice Edith Luckett (1888-1987). L'année de ses 8 ans, sa mère se remarie avec le neurochirurgien Loyal Davis (1896-1982) qui l'adopte six ans plus tard — l'année de ses 14 ans — et lui donne ainsi son nom de famille. Elle peut désormais s'appeler «Nancy Davisa».

En 1951, alors qu'elle est actrice, elle rencontre Ronald Reagan, alors président de la Screen Actors Guild (SAG). L'année suivante, ils se marient lors d'une cérémonie simple dans une petite église, dans la vallée de San Fernando de Los Angeles. Elle dit plus tard: «Ma vie a vraiment commencé quand j'ai épousé mon mari». De leur union naissent Patricia Ann Reagan le 21 octobre 1952, auteur à succès sous le nom de Patti Davis, et Ronald Prescott Reagan dit Ron Reagan. le 20 mai 1958. Nancy est également la belle-mère de Maureen Reagan (1941-2001) et de Michael Reagan (né en 1945), les enfants du premier mariage de Ronald avec l'actrice Jane Wyman.

Formant un couple véritablement fusionnel avec son mari, elle donne durant sa présidence son avis sur certaines nominations de conseillers. Elle milite aussi pour qu'il entame un dégel des relations Est-Ouest, déclarant notamment: «Le monde est trop petit pour que les deux superpuissances ne soient pas en bons termes». En septembre 1984, alors que le ministre soviétique des Affaires étrangères Andreï Gromyko vient d'être reçu par le président dans le Bureau ovale, elle le convainc de s'entretenir en tête-à-tête avec elle dans le salon Rouge de la Maison-Blanche, où il lui conseille: «Vous lui murmurerez "Peace" à l’oreille chaque nuit», ce à quoi elle réagit avec aplomb, en chuchotant à l'oreille du ministre: «Peace». Elle intervient aussi pour que Ronald Reagan rencontre le dirigeant soviétique Mikhaïl Gorbatchev, chose faite en novembre 1985 à Genève, où les relations personnelles tissées entre les deux hommes permettent d'établir par la suite, au cours de quatre sommets bilatéraux, une réduction des armes nucléaires entre leurs deux pays.

Après le second mandat de son mari, elle publie son autobiographie, traduite en français, À mon tour, Paris, 1990, et est à ce titre l'invitée d'honneur de l'émission Apostrophes de Bernard Pivot le 11 mai 1990.

Les dernières années de sa vie, elle réside à Bel Air à Los Angeles, là où elle a vécu avec son époux jusqu'à la mort de celui-ci (en 2004 des suites de la maladie d'Alzheimer). En 2005, elle est brièvement hospitalisée après avoir glissé et être tombée dans sa chambre d'hôtel à Londres, alors qu'elle s'y trouvait pour rendre visite à Margaret Thatcher et au prince Charles. ...

Nancy Davis Reagan (born Anne Frances Robbins; July 6, 1921 – March 6, 2016) was an American film actress and the wife of Ronald Reagan, the 40th President of the United States. She served as the First Lady of the United States from 1981 to 1989. Davis' film career began with small supporting roles in two films that were released in 1949, The Doctor and the Girl with Glenn Ford and East Side, West Side starring Barbara Stanwyck. She played a child psychiatrist in the film noir Shadow on the Wall (1950) with Ann Sothern and Zachary Scott; her performance was called "beautiful and convincing" by New York Times critic A. H. Weiler. She co-starred in 1950's The Next Voice You Hear..., playing a pregnant housewife who hears the voice of God from her radio. Influential reviewer Bosley Crowther of The New York Times wrote that "Nancy Davis [is] delightful as [a] gentle, plain, and understanding wife." In 1951, Davis appeared in Night into Morning, her favorite screen role, a study of bereavement starring Ray Milland. Crowther said that Davis "does nicely as the fiancée who is widowed herself and knows the loneliness of grief," while another noted critic, The Washington Post's Richard L. Coe, said Davis "is splendid as the understanding widow." MGM released Davis from her contract in 1952; she sought a broader range of parts, but also married Reagan, keeping her professional name as Davis, and had her first child that year. She soon starred in the science fiction film Donovan's Brain (1953); Crowther said that Davis, playing the role of a possessed scientist's "sadly baffled wife," "walked through it all in stark confusion" in an "utterly silly" film. In her next-to-last movie, Hellcats of the Navy (1957), she played nurse Lieutenant Helen Blair, and appeared in a film for the only time with her husband, playing what one critic called "a housewife who came along for the ride." Another reviewer, however, stated that Davis plays her part satisfactorily, and "does well with what she has to work with."

Author Garry Wills has said that Davis was generally underrated as an actress because her constrained part in Hellcats was her most widely seen performance. In addition, Davis downplayed her Hollywood goals: promotional material from MGM in 1949 said that her "greatest ambition" was to have a "successful happy marriage"; decades later, in 1975, she would say, "I was never really a career woman but [became one] only because I hadn't found the man I wanted to marry. I couldn't sit around and do nothing, so I became an actress." Ronald Reagan biographer Lou Cannon nevertheless characterized her as a "reliable" and "solid" performer who held her own in performances with better-known actors. After her final film, Crash Landing (1958), Davis appeared for a brief time as a guest star in television dramas, such as the Zane Grey Theatre episode "The Long Shadow" (1961), where she played opposite Ronald Reagan, as well as Wagon Train and The Tall Man, until she retired as an actress in 1962.
