Didier "Ecama" Marouani (born 14 July 1953, in Monaco) is a French composer and musician.

Didier started his career as a pop singer and made his first single, "Je suis ton chevalier" with Etienne Roda-Gil as a lyricist in 1975. He followed this by touring with Johnny Hallyday, Claude François and Joe Dassin. In 1977, he formed the band Space and composed all the songs on these albums under the pseudonym Ecama. The title track from the first album, "Magic Fly" reached number 2 on the U.K. Singles Chart and was used as the main theme song of the original Chinese version of Jackie Chan's 1978 film Snake in the Eagle's Shadow (蛇形刁手). This was followed by the albums Deliverance (1977), Just Blue (1978). In 1980 he quit from the band Space after a dispute with producer Jean-Phillip Illiesco. Later, he participated in another electronic venture "Paris-France-Transit" (1982). In 1983, Didier & Space went to the USSR to give 21 concerts for 600,000 people. In 1992, Didier was able to obtain the necessary authorization for a concert in the Red Square in Moscow. Some 360,000 spectators attended this free concert.

Throughout the 1980s, Didier Marouani and Space maintained quite a large popularity in France and many European socialist republics including Poland, Czechoslovakia, Romania and the Soviet Union). In 1987, Didier composed a new album Space Opera, the first opera composed for synthesizers and choirs. He was able to obtain the participation of both the Red Army Choirs and the Harvard University Choirs (USA) for his album. The album was relayed to the Soviet space station Mir, making the album the first compact disc to be heard in space. The CD had been launched into space together with a CD player with the Russian cosmonauts. Space Opera went on to achieve great success in Europe.

In 2001 the new Space album Symphonic Space Dream was performed as a premiere in Kyiv at the Palace "Ukraine" with the participation of the National Symphonic Orchestra of Ukraine with 110 musicians. In 2002, they performed in Moscow at the Kremlin Theater with a capacity of 6,000 people with the participation of the Presidential Symphonic Orchestra. This was followed by a performance in St. Petersburg attended by over 12,000 people. The song "New Direction [Magic Fly Radio Version]" incorporated elements of the track "Magic Fly" performed by U.K. pop group S Club Juniors on their Together CD.

2015 - Didier performed as a special guest on a music show "Znamenie" together with Evgeny Khmara in October Palace, Kyiv.

In 2009, a huge concert was held in Moscow at the Olympisky Stadium. In October 2009, Nang Records in England released a Best of Space CD, completely remastered with 14 tracks, followed by a remix album the following month.

On 29 November 2016, Russian media reported that Marouani has been detained in Moscow by Russian police following a complaint by Philip Kirkorov with whom Marouani had a disagreement regarding a copyright infringement case. He was released the following day.

On 14 May 2021, asteroid 275215 Didiermarouani was named in his honor by the Working Group Small Body Nomenclature. The main-belt asteroid was discovered by astronomer Timur Krjačko at the Zelenchukskaya Station in 2009. ...

Didier Marouani (né le 14 juillet 1953 à Monaco), aussi connu par son nom d'artiste, Ecama, est un compositeur et musicien français et le fondateur du groupe Space.

Il commence sa carrière en composant pour des artistes français, à l'âge de 17 ans il rencontre Étienne Roda-Gil avec qui il écrit pour Nicoletta et pour Régine. Étienne Roda-Gil le pousse à chanter et lui offre dix textes qu'il mettra en musique et qu'il interprétera sur un album arrangé par Jean-Claude Vannier publié en 1974 chez Barclay. Suivront quelques autres 45 tours et trois tournées en première partie de Johnny Hallyday, Claude François et Joe Dassin.

En 1977, il fonde le groupe Space en compagnie d'un pionnier du synthétiseur Roland Romanelli et du batteur Joe Hammer avec lequel il va connaître un très grand succès et vendre plusieurs millions d'albums dans le monde entier.

Le premier titre de Space, Magic Fly, devient numéro un des hit-parades dans de nombreux pays à travers le monde. (no 1 à la fois des ventes et des hit-parades radios et clubs en France, Allemagne, Italie, Espagne, Scandinavie, Amérique du Sud, Angleterre, Union Soviétique; no 1 des National Disco-Charts aux États-Unis, un contrat est signé avec Casablanca Records), en tout plus de 10 millions de disques vendus en trois albums à travers le monde.

En 1978, il compose la musique (sur des textes de Simon Monceau) de la Comédie musicale Le rêve de mai. L'album concept porte sur les événements de Mai 1968 et il est publié à l'occasion du 10e anniversaire des événements, en 1978. Ont participé à ce projet notamment Nicole Rieu, Jean-Michel Caradec et Nicolas Peyrac.

En 1979, Didier Marouani compose l'indicatif de la première émission de science-fiction à la télévision Temps X présentée par les frères Bogdanoff.

En juin 1983, la musique de Space étant très connue en Union Soviétique, Didier Marouani et son groupe Space sont invités par le Ministère de la culture soviétique pour y donner une série de 21 concerts en Union Soviétique rassemblant plus de 600.000 spectateurs à Moscou dans la salle Olympique, Leningrad et Kiev; c'est la première fois qu'un artiste français se produit dans des stades aussi grands; sa tournée est un véritable phénomène musical et social; les places se vendent au marché noir à $100; la musique et les concerts frappent l'imagination des spectateurs qui découvrent l'utilisation des lasers en concert pour la première fois.

En 1985, Didier compose et produit un single pour Gloria Gaynor: My Love is Music et If I Need You.

En juin 1987, Didier travaille au nouvel album de Space: Space Opera, le 1er opéra spatial, composé pour synthétiseurs et chœurs. Après 6 mois de négociations avec les Ministères soviétiques de la Culture et de la Défense, il obtient la participation des chœurs de l'Armée rouge, ainsi que celle des chœurs de l'Université Harvard (États-Unis) cet album est acheminé dans la station spatiale soviétique Mir, c'est la première fois qu'un disque est envoyé et diffusé dans l'espace; ce disque sera satellisé dans l'espace par les cosmonautes soviétiques en signe d'espoir et de communication. ...
