Sir David Mark Rylance Waters (* 18. Januar 1960 in Ashford, Kent, England) ist ein britisch-amerikanischer Schauspieler und Theaterregisseur. Im Jahr 2016 erhielt er einen Oscar als bester Nebendarsteller für seine Rolle als Sowjetspion Rudolf Abel im Film Bridge of Spies – Der Unterhändler.

Sir David Mark Rylance Waters (né le 18 janvier 1960 à Ashford, Kent, Angleterre) est un acteur, directeur de théâtre et dramaturge anglais.

Il a été le premier directeur artistique du Shakespeare's Globe à Londres, entre 1995 et 2005. Au cinéma, il a notamment joué dans Prospero's Books (1991), Angels and Insects (1995), Institut Benjamenta (1996) et Intimacy (2001). Rylance a remporté l'oscar et le BAFTA Award du meilleur acteur dans un second rôle pour son interprétation de Rudolf Abel dans Bridge of Spies (2015). Rylance a joué le rôle-titre dans Le BFG (2016) de Steven Spielberg, une adaptation cinématographique en live action du livre pour enfants de Roald Dahl, et est apparu dans Dunkirk (2017) de Christopher Nolan, basé sur l'évacuation britannique pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. He was the first artistic director of Shakespeare's Globe in London, between 1995 and 2005. His film appearances include Prospero's Books (1991), Angels and Insects (1995), Institute Benjamenta (1996), and Intimacy (2001). Rylance won the Academy Award and BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Rudolf Abel in Bridge of Spies (2015). Rylance played the title role in Steven Spielberg's The BFG (2016), a live-action film adaptation of the children's book by Roald Dahl, and appeared in Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk (2017), based on the British evacuation in World War II. He appeared as James Halliday in Spielberg's 2018 film Ready Player One, based on the novel of the same name.

David Mark Rylance Waters (18 de enero de 1960) es un actor, director de teatro y dramaturgo inglés. Egresado de la Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, comenzó su carrera en 1980 en el Citizens Theatre de Glasgow y luego en la Royal Shakespeare Company, de la que fue miembro hasta 1989. Fue director artístico del Shakespeare's Globe entre 1995 y 2005.

Ha trabajado en teatros británicos y de Estados Unidos, tanto del West End y Broadway como del circuito alternativo. En cine participó, entre otras, en Prospero's Books, de Peter Greenaway, Intimidad, de Patrice Chéreau y Bridge of Spies, The BFG y Ready Player One, de Steven Spielberg.

Recibió, entre otros premios, dos Olivier, tres BAFTAs, dos Tonys y un Oscar a Mejor Actor de Reparto. Fue, además, ordenado Knight Bachelor en 2016.
