Née en 1963 dans le New Jersey, Whitney Houston, cousine de Dionne Warwick, est une surdouée de la musique et est très vite surnommée "The Voice" quand sa carrière musicale débute. Elle remporte six Grammy Awards au cours d'une carrière fructueuse derrière le micro (170 millions de disques vendus), mais malheureusement entachée de nombreux problèmes de drogue et de santé depuis le début des années 2000.

Whitney Houston s'est aussi illustrée devant des caméras de cinéma. Elle est ainsi l'héroïne de l'inoubliable Bodyguard (1992) aux côtés de Kevin Costner, mais aussi de la comédie dramatique Où sont les hommes ? (1996) réalisée par le comédien Forest Whitaker ou encore de la romance La Femme du pasteur (1997) aux côtés de Denzel Washington et de Courtney B. Vance.

Inspired by several prominent soul singers in her extended family, including mother Cissy Houston and cousins Dionne Warwick and Dee Dee Warwick, as well as her godmother, Aretha Franklin, Houston began singing with New Jersey church's junior gospel choir at age 11. After she began performing alongside her mother in night clubs in the New York City area, she was discovered by Arista Records label head Clive Davis. Amid widespread media coverage of personal and professional turmoil, Houston ended her 14-year marriage to singer Bobby Brown in 2006.
