Leslie Feist (née le 13 février 1976 à Amherst, Nouvelle-Écosse) est une auteure-compositrice-interprète canadienne. Elle se produit en solo sous le nom de Feist et également en groupe avec les Broken Social Scene.

Ayant grandi à Regina et à Calgary, Feist commence la musique comme chanteuse d'un groupe punk nommé Placebo (à ne pas confondre avec le groupe de musique britannique du même nom). Ils gagnent à un tremplin local et remportent le droit de jouer en première partie d'un concert des Ramones. Après cinq ans d'une tournée éprouvante, Feist est obligée de faire une pause pour récupérer de sa voix abîmée. Elle s'installe à Toronto en 1998 et commence la guitare; en 1999, elle est la guitariste du groupe By Divine Right. Elle commence à chanter seule et sort son premier album en solo la même année: Monarch (Lay Down Your Jeweled Head). L'album est financé avec une subvention du gouvernement canadien.

En 2000, Feist est colocataire de Peaches et de Gonzales et elle est invitée à chanter sur The Teaches of Peaches. Elle rejoint ensuite les sessions d'enregistrement des albums de Broken Social Scene Feel Good Lost et You Forgot It in People. Puis elle s'installe à Paris. En Europe, elle collabore aussi avec le duo norvégien Kings of Convenience, invitée à chanter sur leur album Riot on an Empty Street (Know-How et The Build-Up). Elle apparaît aussi sur l'album Gone Gone Gone du groupe The New Deal, en 2003.

En 2006, elle apparaît sur la jaquette de l'album Dying to say This to you du groupe The Sounds avec Leigh Lezark.

En 2009, elle chante You & I avec Wilco sur leur album Wilco (The Album).

Feist enregistre son deuxième album solo Let It Die à Paris en 2002 et 2003, sorti en 2004. Les chansons Mushaboom, One Evening et Inside and Out en sont extraits. Cet album est un mélange de jazz, de bossa nova et de rock indépendant. Elle entame une tournée mondiale pour promouvoir cet album. Même si sa tournée est un succès, l'album ne généra pas de grosse vente mondiale. C'est en France et au Canada qu'elle trouve son public et est certifié or en France et Platine au Canada et se vend à 500 000 copies dans le monde

Début 2006, elle enregistre un nouvel album, avec Gonzales, Mocky, Jamie Lidell et Renaud Letang: Open Season, un album de remix et de collaborations, est sorti le 18 avril 2006 au Canada.

Le single Mushaboom sert de bande-son pour les publicités des parfums Lacoste.

C'est à La Frette-sur-Seine, dans le Val-d'Oise, qu'elle décide d'enregistrer, en moins de trois semaines, son nouvel album. Elle collabore avec Julian Brown, Bryden Baird et Jess Baird, mais aussi avec Gonzales, Mocky, Renaud Létang et Jamie Lidell. En avril 2007, elle lance The Reminder qu'elle produit avec Ron Sexsmith. Le premier extrait de Feist s'appelle My Moon My Man qui ne connaît aucun succès aux États-Unis, mais au Canada, ce titre est bien accueilli. Le deuxième extrait de ce disque, 1234, deviendra un grand succès mondial, car aux États-Unis, il atteint la 8e position du Billboard 100. Ce titre sert également de bande-son et vidéo pour les publicités des nouveaux iPod nano d'Apple.

En 2008, le clip de la chanson 1234, tourné en un plan-séquence a remporté la Victoire de la musique du meilleur clip musical de l'année.

Leslie Feist (born February 13, 1976), known mononymously as Feist, is a Canadian and American indie pop singer-songwriter and guitarist, performing both as a solo artist and as a member of the indie rock group Broken Social Scene.

Feist launched her solo music career in 1999 with the release of Monarch. Her subsequent studio albums, Let It Die, released in 2004, and The Reminder, released in 2007, were critically acclaimed and commercially successful, selling over 2.5 million copies. The Reminder earned Feist four Grammy nominations, including a nomination for Best New Artist. She has received 11 Juno Awards, including two Artist of the Year. Her fourth studio album, Metals, was released in 2011. In 2012, Feist collaborated on a split EP with metal group Mastodon, releasing an interactive music video in the process.

She has released six studio albums as of 2023, Feist received three Juno awards at the 2012 ceremony: Artist of the Year, Adult Alternative Album of the Year for Metals, and Music DVD of the Year for her documentary Look at What the Light Did Now., additionally she was nominated for four Grammy Awards including Best Pop Vocal Album for The Reminder and Best New Artist.

Leslie Feist was born on February 13, 1976, in Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada. Her parents are both artists. Her father, Harold Feist, was an American-Canadian abstract expressionist painter who taught fine arts at Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick. Her mother, Lyn Feist, was a student of ceramics from Saskatchewan. After their first child, Ben, was born, the family moved to Sackville.

Feist is also the niece of guitarist Dan Achen, who played in the 1990s rock band Junkhouse and had also produced for numerous artists (Achen died in 2010 due to a heart attack).

Feist's parents divorced soon after she was born and Ben, Feist and their mother moved to Regina, Saskatchewan, where they lived with her grandparents. They later moved to Calgary, Alberta, where she attended Bishop Carroll High School as well as Alternative High School. She aspired to be a writer, and spent much of her youth singing in choirs. At the age of 12, Feist performed as one of 1,000 dancers in the opening ceremonies of the Calgary Winter Olympics, which she cites as inspiration for the video "1234."

As her father is American, Feist has dual Canadian-U.S. citizenship, joking later that she was given U.S. citizenship as part of a deal with Apple.

In 1991, at age 15, Feist got her start in music when she founded and was the lead vocalist for a Calgary punk band called Placebo (not to be confused with the English band Placebo). She and her bandmates won a local Battle of the Bands competition and were awarded the opening slot at the festival Infest 1993, featuring the Ramones. At this concert she met Brendan Canning, whose band hHead performed immediately before hers, and with whom she joined in Broken Social Scene ten years later. ...
