Discuss Haley Joel Osment

He is a former child actor, best known for the movies "The Sixth Sense (1999)" and "A.I. Artificial Intelligence(2001)".
His role as Cole Sear, the boy who could "see dead people", in the supernatural movie "The Sixth Sense (1999)" won him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

I believe it was Michael Caine who won that award that year. Haley was nominated, which is still an amazing accomplishment for an actor so young. He's returned to acting in recent years but in mostly low budget fare.

The state of him these days! His cameo in Me Him Her was infantile, like the film!

I remember Michael Caine referencing Osment in his Academy Awards acceptance speech, saying that when he saw Osment in The Sixth Sense, he thought that he (Caine) was out of the running.

Two superb performances in very difficult roles is more than most child actors manage. The trajectory of Osment's subsequent career is disappointing to say the least, but at least he is still steadily working, which is more than can be said for many movie kids over the years.

That was such a competitive category in Best Supporting Actor on that particular year. You could've made a case for all 5. Tom Cruise I thought was the favourite to win for Magnolia but Osment, Jude Law (Talented Mr. Ripley) and Michael Clarke Duncan (Green Mile) were also great. Caine won, which I was fine with, but I would've plumped for Law or Cruise.

I think Caine's performance is a little under appreciated these days. The accent wobbles, but he is very charming and moving in the film.

I liked Magnolia and loved The Talented Mr. Ripley but thought that both films had stronger performances than those of Cruise and Law. But as a nod to memorable movies, I was fine with them making the list.

I loathed The Green Mile and found Duncan's work unmemorable.

Osment was the clear stand-out for me - but Caine is certainly an actor who deserves a second Oscar and he gave a great speech, so I was happy to see him win.

Yeah me too; it's a nice movie. Also good that he was there to pick up the award this time; he missed his first win because he was filming JAWS 4 in the south Pacific!!
