Alex says farewell to his friends and leaves Hawaii. For good?

Catherine surprises Alex and sits next to him on the plane. They look into each other's eyes, he holds out his hand and she takes it.

Catherine: "You ready?"
Alex: "Yeah."

In the final scene he stares out the airplane window.

Side notes:

Alex choice for Catherine is disappointing, but forgivable. She is so much like his mother Doris: a CIA operative whose job comes first before love and family. He grew up without a mother and Catherine is a perfect substitute. Sadly history will repeat itself. Just like his father, Steve McGarrett, Alex will always be uncertain where she is and what she is up to, or if she is still alive.

I miss his 'ohana' of the first seven seasons: Chin Ho, Kono and Max.
