喜欢恶作剧的疯丫头魔法使莎莉是魔法之国的公主。某天，对人类感兴趣的莎莉从魔法之国偷偷溜出来，到了人类的世界，偶然间遇见了人类女孩良子和紫并和她们成为了朋友。非常喜欢人类世界的莎莉决定和弟弟卡保两个人以人类的身份住在这条街上。莎莉用魔法造出了自己和弟弟住的房子，还作为小学5年级的人类女孩上学。就这样，隐瞒了自己魔法使的身份，莎莉在人间的生活开始了。

Sally s'est liée d'amitié avec Patricia et Elisa, des filles terriennes. C'est le jour de son couronnement de reine qu'elle va devoir abandonner ses amies et ne plus retourner sur la Terre. Sally, n'étant pas d'accord, fuit le royaume et arrive sur la Terre au moment d'un accident. Sa mère, au courant de son départ accepte cette décision en échange d'effacer tous les souvenirs du pays des rêves et de sa famille. Il refera ainsi les liens qu'elle a tissé auparavant et décide de s'installer sur la Terre. Elle y bâtit une sorte de château de sorcière comme maison.

Sally is the witch princess of the Magic Kingdom who longs to visit the mortal realm, presumably to make friends her own age. One day, by mistake, Sally teleports to the "mid world" (Earth), where she uses her magic to fend off a couple of burglars menacing two schoolgirls. Immediately befriended by her new acquaintances — tomboyish Yoshiko Hanamura (known affectionately as "Yotchan") and girly Sumire Kasugano — Sally decides to stay on Earth indefinitely, leading to mischief. As with Samantha Stevens in Bewitched, Sally tries to keep her supernatural abilities secret, assuming the role of a human child.

In the final episode, Sally's grandma informs her she must return to the Magic Kingdom. Before leaving, Sally tries to tell her friends about her origins, but no one will believe her. Then her elementary school catches on fire, and Sally uses her magic to put it out. Her powers thus exposed, Sally's time to leave has finally come. She waves farewell to her friends, and returns to the Magic Kingdom.

Being so popular in Japan, mostly the same way as classic Hanna-Barbera characters are in America, a second series was produced 20 years later. The second series continues a few years after the original ending, and finishes with the Original video animation Sally the Witch: Mother's Love is Eternal, in which, at the end, Sally finally becomes the ruler Queen of the Magic Kingdom, but worries about leaving her friends behind.

Sally è la principessa del mondo magico d'Astoria e desidera ardentemente visitare il mondo dei mortali per avere degli amici della sua età. Un giorno viene teletrasportata nel mondo intermedio, la Terra, dove inizia a utilizzare la magia per respingere un paio di malintenzionati che avevano attaccato due giovani studentesse. La principessa fa subito amicizia con le due ragazze. Sally decide quindi di restare sul nuovo pianeta cercando però di mantenere segrete le sue capacità soprannaturali. La principessa assume il ruolo e le sembianze di una simpatica bambina umana. Durante la sua permanenza sulla Terra, continua ad aiutare i suoi amici con la magia restando però sempre ben attenta affinché nessuno scopra questa sua particolare dote.

魔法の国から人間界へやってきた小学5年生の少女・サリーと、サリーが魔法使いであることを知らない同級生たちが繰り広げる愛や友情の物語である。

Салли — принцесса «колдовского мира», Астории. Однажды она перемещается в «средний мир» (на Землю)[3]. Там Салли, используя свою магию, помешала паре воров, угрожающим двум молодым школьницам. Сразу же подружившись со своими новыми знакомыми — девчонкой-драчуньей Ёсики Ханамурой и женственной Сумире Касуганой — Салли решает остаться на какое-то время в нашем мире.

Находясь на Земле, она с помощью волшебства помогает подругам, но родители предупредили Салли, что если кто-то узнаёт об её способностях — ей придётся покинуть этот мир и вернуться в Асторию.
