What the hell was his end game? That made no sense. He went from the most cunning guy on the show with a lust for power, to a guy that wanted to die slowly in his Roman Bath. Lame.

I never understood that character. Was he evil, was he kind? Was he manipulating people, was he just trying to understand people? I never understood his motivation, nor agenda. But I liked the character. I imagine that the real Eckbert was more of a tyrant, considering the time and era, and what I know from history. This Eckbert seemed very progressive, almost 21st Century.

Total agree. I liked the character too. That's why I'm disappointed in his demise.

I kind of fell asleep during the last episodes so I will forever remember the chemistry between Ragnar (sigh) and Ecbert.

The two chilling in the Roman Bath saying they are good men but corrupt men was one of the best scenes in the whole series.

I think you're right. (I would have to watch some seasons again..) But Ecbert and Ragnar did bathe together. I think I liked that scene too, hehe.

I always did like the ambiguity in Vikings. Many things were up for more than one interpretation.
